Anyone noticed that Tyre prices have jacked up recently? I did this afternoon when I popped into Micheldever as usual and was stung an extra 22 quid plus VAT per tyre for the 225/40/19 Michelin PS2's in there (£172.99 now)
When I got back, I looked up the old receipts and how they've varied- it went up £2 or something per tyre from Sept 06 to Aug 07- and £22 quid from Aug 07 to Aug 08.
Micheldever claim their margin has gone down, even though the price has gone up, due to oil price etc... I'll be needing rear boots soon, at £198.99 each. Oh well, still pretty reasonable I reckon compared to what BMW would ask.

In addition to oil prices I wonder how much of the 22% price rise is also due to exchange rates?
I've been thinking of swapping the tyres on my E39 M5 again and was looking at going the PS2 route (made in Europe). Saw a thread on here yesterday discussing Goodyears (made in the US) that EVO magazine liked. These work out at £100 a corner cheaper than the PS2s. Guess I'll be trying the goodyears before the PS2s!

try buying a set of PS2s for an E60 M5 then as I did a couple of weeks ago: over £1100!
Christ- how much bigger are they then? A set of 4 for mine (225/40/19 and 255/35/19) will be around £875 now incl VAT, fitting etcZod said:

I would say that even if the F1 is only 75% of the tyre that the PSII is, the near 30% cost saving has to be worth it especially when most of us will never find ourselves needing that extra 25% anyway. ( That is quite an over estimate on the % F1 V PSII performance wise, I have so far not found any scenario that the F1 has not coped with and felt that the PSII would have ).

I value the improvement the PS2s give over the Contis, so no way would I downgrade to the GoodYears.
I will second that statement, went down the Bridgestone route on my rears instead of my usuakl ps2 choice and found the move a bad one in terms of grip!! In the dry there is no comparison but equal in the wet maybe??.Lets face it nobody really wants to drive that hard in the rain anyway unless your Don Palmer.
Just phoned Micheldever to order the rears for my M3- they quoted £198.98 for the Michelin PS2's in August, now they want £258.44 a corner...f
ksticks.
Does anyone know a supplier nr Guildford area who might get close to this, as it clearly doesn't justify the hour round trip at the mo?

I use the Bristol outfit of this chain. They are owned by Micheldever though.....

On a related note, doesn't costco do cheap Michelin tyres?

Martin's Tyres, West End (no, not in London) - I bought a PS2 in summer from Micheldever as I needed one on a Saturday morning. Called Martin's a month ago for new boots on my shed, and a matching new front on my M5, and the price quoted undercut Micheldever by a reasonable amount of the price I paid in June. They will not have it in stock, but they get their deliveries on Tues/Thus, so ring to order.

Not associated with them, but when ever I do a ring around, they come up trumps, so been using them for years. My mates swear by them.
Why waste your money on new boots..?
Buy them on e-bay part worn.. I get mine with 6mm tread on for about 40-50 squid a corner.. its buttons compared to new prices.. thats 1/4 new cost for 85% of the wear..
Do a track day and throw them away..!! I soon got bored of destroying a new set of fronts in a day..!!
