M5 fuel consumption
Discussion
Was looking at buying a 05 M5'.. Is it poosible to get 20-25mpg out of these yokes when driving easy??
Mate of mine has an M6, drives flat everywhere and have only ever seen 12.1mpg on the dash average.
Anybody here have M5 and get half decent feul consumption??
Otherwise thinking of a CSL AGAIN!!
car will be for everyday use

ha haha haha haha ha!Sorry.
I think you might get that on a gentle motorway waft with cruize control on. I doubt you would get any higher.
Fuel consumtion is discussed a lot here. http://www.mtorque.co.uk/
15-25 mpg, either way means nothing against the depreciation a new buyer will feel. A colleague was offered a Touring, 10 months old with 8k miles for £39k down from £72k!! You could fuel a Veyron for that!
If you like it, if you can afford the depreciation, buy it and enjoy it. At sub £40k it must be a bargain?

WHO ON EARTH BUYS AN M5 (whatever vintage) AND WORRIES ABOUT FUEL CONSUMPTION FIGURES ?
all ///M's are to be driven as ///M intended - like you stole it !
Surely the beauty of an M5 is that its a genuine all-rounder, and can be driven sensibly when you want. Certainly that's how I view my E39 M5 (which is capable of 27mpg on a long run when the family is on board by the way).all ///M's are to be driven as ///M intended - like you stole it !

I once got 25mpg in my E60 M5 by sitting at 70mph in the middle of the night on the M4 with the cruise control for an hour. Realistically if you have to slow down and accelerate (even gently) as per day to day motorway driving then it's 21mpg or 22mpg on a very good day. Over 18 months I typically averaged 13-14mpg with a lot of motorway thrown in...
Just picked up on this link and thought I would share my consumption figures with you. I've got an early 2000 e39 M5 and I must be Miss Daisy's driver because on the motorway I'm getting 29+mpg and an average of 26+ combined driving. I bought the car two months ago with 119,000 miles on the clock with a full BMW service history and I've had an oil service for piece of mind two weeks ago I've now done 124,000 miles and I'll keep this car forever. My only complaint was the mobility system needed replacing.
