aux connector for ipod £180 at dealer
Discussion
hi i have an e46 m3 2003 with the hk and nav,.i was wondering if anyone had had a similar thing done and what is your opinion.i know it isnt a full ipod interface(£400 at bmw) but if they can locate the jack plug near the centre console i dont mind just playing the ipod on shuffle or playlist while driving.its surely much better sound quality than my ropey belkin fm thingy.
do you have to have the tv mode on for the aux input to be used?
the dealer reckons £180 all in(the part is £40),i know people have done it themselves but to be honest i arent too practical and would rather have it done proffesionaly. do you think £180 is steep for an aux lead,as i do, or do you know anyone near staffs that would do it cheaper. in my experience a lot of car audio specialists wont touch the factory satnav/tv install.
any help would be grateful

Forget about the BMW ipod interface. Get yourself an Intravee II for FULL Ipod integration. It costs approx £125 and you will need also need an Alpine KCA420i (approx £50) to complete the installation which is very easy. It is literally plug and play and your Ipod will work through your nav screen and steering controls. It is simply one of the best mods you can do. Steve
I'd get an Intravee II definitely - http://www.toysinyourcar.com/acatalog/intravee.htm... - it is a very well thought of piece of kit, I got one from the above site...the guy who runs it is top notch for customer service too...
nice one for the help,to be honest i looked at the intravee clip on you tube about a year ago and it looked the buisness with all the data and tracks etc on the nav screen.i did have a look at getting one but im sure they were only available mail order from the states and i dont know if i trust myself fitting it unless it is easy.
i think for the extra £20 over a basic aux lead its definately worth getting as it will charge my ipod and allow the steering wheel controls to be used.
where do you fit it? and does it involve the removal of the cd changer or does it just become disconnected?
thanks

It is easy to connect - check out the intravee site...

quite a group around it too...so someone will always help you...they have only just started to become 'commercially' available in the UK - after most of the units being testers and the guy who makes them (Simon on the intravee forum) wanting to tweak them...I think he got a US supplier because of the size of the market out there I guess...
Worth a shot anyway - distance selling laws are good so if it doesn't work...your protected....
Options wize...standard install does remove the CD stacker...but there are ways around this...but why do you need a CD if you have 10,000 ipod songs...?
