e36 m3 evo throwing oil out of air filter???????????
Discussion
i have a 98 evo track toy whilst on a local track day yesterday i found myself understeering badly round right hand corners,, pulled in to the pits to find oil over the tyre (heart beat raised sliyghtly) popped the bonnet and found that oil had been pumping out of the air filter,, i have recently fitted a carbon air box simular to a csl,,,, the box had loads of oil init and the air filter was soaked, i had tip approx 2.5 ltrs back in to bring to the right place on dip stick.. the track is very tight and very punishing just wondering if this could have anything to do with this,, if any of u fellas have any ideas to what is causing this would be much appriecated!!!

I have heard of this before on an Integra Type R which needed modifications to the breather when they ran on slicks, I think it was an old copy of Car and Car Conversions.
I would suggest looking at your breather system. If the pipes are blocked the vacuum in your inlet (The depression) will suck oil up through the breather pipes and into your airbox.
Also, pull the breather pipe from the rocker cover and aim upwards, when the engine is warm, the gas should just flow out, if it noticeably pulses out it's a sign of high engine wear and increased blowby.
An E36 guru will no doubt be able to say if this is a common occurence, but check the breather system first, just follow the pipes, remove eavh one in turn and make sure they are clear and in good condition.
Dave!

no it isnt a geoff steel, i bought it off ebay from some greek guy who said it was a direct fitment, far from it it had no mountin for throttle cables or any points to put the breathers to, i had use all the conections off the standard air box to do it properly if i had realised how much work it was to fit i wouldnt of bothered especially after doing a fare bit of botchin to standard air box,, and i know cant run the car with air flow mass meter now as soon as i plug it in the car cuts out :0(
but it does sound lovely with carbon air box csl replica not lookin forward to takin it back off though
