Exactly why I'm thinking of one :-)
I'm waiting until the end of the year, early next (feb)
Need to go check one out for boot size, etc., as I want to make sure it would fulfill it's duties lugging family and kit around. The wife's golf will be the daily hack for child transportation... M6 would be purely for my fun and whenever we're out as a family :-)
Buying an M5 wouldn't work... doesn't look special enough and is almost too practical to have sitting on the drive all week waiting for me to get in it!! :-)

It is looking to me as my best option for fun and family friendly.
thanks for the comments
I have been thinking about one of these for a while but the stories of £1.99 per ltr within 6 months would scare the Shi*e out of me with a M5/M6..12-14mpg round town would hurt....
Lets not forget people who are buying these now at 40k are not in the same financial boat as the people who originally bought them at 85k who didnt really care about petrol costs...
I think these will just keep on dropping so if you are adamant you want one I would wait a further 6 months to see what petrol prices go to. £2 a ltr is surely gonna affect the resale of 5ltr cars..IMO

I doubt the resale value will be hit that hard by fuel.Lets not forget people who are buying these now at 40k are not in the same financial boat as the people who originally bought them at 85k who didnt really care about petrol costs...

The M6 is a very very rare car and it is only an entusiast looking to buy one, which means it may drop slightly in value but not a huge ammount.
An X5 4.6 will be a different story.
Personally i cant justify replacing the E39 because although the M6 is faster i doubt the pleasure per pound ratio could be beaten.
The M6 is an awesome car. I've mentioned it before but if two 6-footers can get in the back (for short journeys) then it's more than capable of ferrying small kids around.
Wonderfulm, wonderful engine.
The funny thing I think about the 6 in general is that it really polarises people. You either love it or hate it. Are there many other cars out there that people really feel strongly about (looks wise) than the current 6?
Great little article here if interested.....

nobody seriously in the market for these indulges whilst worrying excessively about the price of Tropicana.
I've no idea about their attitude to fruit juice, but they'll certainly worry about fuel.Whilst the originally purchasers at £80k may well be oblivious to fuel costs, secondhand purchasers at £40k probably will probably be very concerned.
