At what age/mileage should the cam belt be changed and what should I expect to pay at an independent BMW specialist.

Thanks

Maybe I need shooting - but I thought all e46 beamers didn't need their cambelts changed as it was a chain and not rubber?

I have no idea, just looking at getting one. It would be handy if it was a chain!

I think that's true. I've been working in the spare parts trade for a while now and from memory I can't remember selling E46 3 series timing belts.

Last BMW 6 pot to run a rubber belt was the E30, all since have been duplex chains so no change required unless the chain has a rattle.
