Well I've been attempting to p/ex my M5 (as per my other post).
I finally managed to get a slightly above suicide inducing p/ex figure from a main dealer against a year old Z4M roadster.

I quite liked the idea initially as I used to have an E46 M3 and enjoyed it greatly.

Blimey though, I realise I've been taking my M5 for granted.
There's nothing really wrong with the Z4 and its handling was good fun.
The engine though....
What I used to think was great, after 37,000 miles with the V10, now seems insipid and breathless.

This isn't a pop at the Z4, more an appreciation of the awesome delights of the M5.

I apologise and take it all back - I'll be staying with the M5 for another twelve months - until the warranty expires.

Thanks BMW for making me appreciate how good my current car is...

Are you sure the Z was an M? Or is the V10 really that good?

yes

The S54 is a fantasticly powerful, high revving and glorious sounding combustion engine.

The S85 on the other hand was pinched from the Millenium Falcon when Lucas wasn't looking. The fuel filler is just a facade. This thing runs on dilithium crystals. Hyperspace is also possbible with a decent re-map you know.

I would imagine that 343bhp vs. 500bhp would feel insipid and breathless...

Fair enough, I'm sure the car is great and you can enjoy it for another year, but if you've struggled to sell the car for a decent price now, with 1 yr warranty left, don't you think you'll have even more difficulty after warranty expiry?

I'm not too sure, i really struggled with the Z4M handling on bumpy backroads, with TC on it was a nihghtmare and with it off it was really hard work to go really fast, on track though it was sublime, I think to be honest the spring rates are too stiff for fast progress on our ste roads and a softer set of sprinsg might really make it much easier to chuck about, all IMHO of course

Ha, for a change I would agree with you! I think the Z4MC was set up for the smooth tarmac usually found in Germany, France and Italy. I covered more than 10k miles across Europe and the car was utterly delightlful - you can really carve the turns, revelling in its poise and balance on the throttle. Try that in the UK and all you get is the back end skipping across the tarmac as it gets unsettled...

I concur. I had both up until a few weeks ago and the M% is in a different league, although now the M5 has gone I seem to have become used to the point and squirt Z4M again.
I alsoagree with tackcar. Z4M could be better on the road, but its a weapon on the track ( although the brakes could do with some work)
