M5 Gearboz am i the only one who hated it?

A few months back i had a M5 for a day and took it for a good thrash! Car was great loved the engine ect but that gearbox ruined it for me. I was considering buying an M6 but after driving that M5 gearbox i just couldn't live with it. I just felt it was slow and jerky at any speed other than full throttle. I's a shame because the gearbox ruins the car, but what i didn't get was anyone else i spoke to who had driven it loved the car and didn't mind the gearbox. Just wondering if anyone else agrees with me that the gearbox is s**t?
I don't hate it, as I can't deny it's an incredible piece of technology.
However, it's taken away a crucial element of analogue control from the driver and dumbed down the overall experience. It's possible to smooth out the up-changes, but frankly not very satisfying.
As for reliability, I've had countless sensor warnings and a replaced transmission. In fact, my confidence in the system is now so low that as soon as the car is out of warranty, I will probably get rid. A shame, as the rest of the car is brilliant.
