upgrade e39 ///M5 brakes
Discussion
As title suggests- I am looking at upgrading from the currently standard front brake set-up on my 2001 e39 ///M5.
My driving consists of mainly fast road driving and the odd track day.
It would appear that from the last of the line e34 ///M5's with the 4 piston front calipers that BMW went backwards with the launch of the e39 and its single piston sliding caliper design, although the "floating" discs were kept.
I am going to have to replace the front discs and pads in the very near future and have been looking at various upgrades in the caliper department from the likes of Wilwood, Brembo, Movit, Stoptech but was wondering if anyone has experience of fitting calipers from another manufacture?
I realise that mounting brackets will have to be manufactured to enable the fitting of other calipers, and so would think that radial mounting calipers would be best.
The current disc sizes are 345mm x 32mm in the "floating" design.

There are dozens of threads about this topic on www.m5board.com under the e39 section. Movit make posibly the ultimate brake kits, Wilwood are rubbish on heavier cars, AP are expensive and not the best. The question is how much do you want to spend and would new disks and pads not be a better option than spending upwards of £2,000 on a front bbk??
