Tough bid that. Looking on autotrader, similar cars are a bit higher than that...I'd say £16-16.5k

Take a look on all the advertising sites, find comparable cars and adjust for what you think add/detracts value on this one....then take £500 off for a bit of discount smile

A car is only worth what YOU are willing to pay, not what a buyer wants. The market today is flooded with sellers, many will soon need the money so look around, take your time and haggle. Prices are falling and cash is tight for many people today.

That's a trade price. this car is worth at least £18k to a private buyer.

That car is not worth 18K. The market is flooded with cheap metal, many people need the money due to borrowings. Offer low and see what happens...loads of choice and I would not be offering anywhere near 16k.

Why do people do this? I knew a guy at uni, older than the average student, maybe 36, bought a 325i, had it debadged and bought an M3... number plate. If it is an M3 the performance should speak for itself, without having to have a private plate saying M3...

God, I feel dirty now being on the BMW part of the forum.

my experience in recent weeks shows otherwise..the problem is there is nothing close to 18k or less with this age spec history and mileage on the autotrader/pistonheads etc being sold privately or on a forecourt in the UK(if there is please let me know). in fact a couple of times i have been outbid by nutters who have paid 19k for similar age/spec cars. i suppose there is still people out there with money who will pay well for a looked after example. i would love to pay 16k for this kind of car but i dont know where you guys get them from@that price. i dont believe they exist as i have been looking for ages!

I've not seen one as advertised as cheap as 18k but there are quite a few in the sub 20k area and a bit of haggling will see the price down to 19k or less quite soon..

Problem is that E46 M3 prices are very soft at present and with the volume of cars on the market the price is only going to head downwards..

Prices are definately falling and SOME people will be feeling the pinch, for sure, so its worth a go at bidding hard. I'm currently selling my car and have had some idiots making stupid offers, so dont assume everyone HAS TO sell. There are deals to be done, for sure, so look around.....

Fuuniest thing now is when you see X5 plates on ML's or Q7's.

It does seem to be a particular thing with BMW to have a plate that relates to the car
