Discussion
Adverts should be in the PH classifieds section here:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/
Includes an M3 for sale section which can be searched with filters. Also a wanted section where you may like to place an advert.
Good luck with the search.

ok guys i forgot to tell you im on a budget, sub 19k and im hesitant in buying a car with mileage above 60k because by the time i finish with it, it'll probably be 80k which means hard to sell do you think? so ideally i want the mileage around 55k max.
You're a bit out of touch mate.If you're going to run the car with a BMW warranty then 60k MATTERS, as the warranty goes up from £1000 to almost £2000 a year. Otherwise BUY ON CONDITION. A 30k car which has lived in London may be much worse mechanically that an 80k car which has been warmed gently and then run at 90mph on the motorway all the time.
Oh, and MAKE SURE that the running in service was done on time. If it wasn't, walk away.
The engines on these cars can and do fail catastrophically (rare, but about £10k to fix I think) so you need to be careful.
Why not just buy a warrantied car from BMW? You can get them for your budget.
The cost for warranties has gone down, circa £750 and £1,500 above and below 60k miles, all the options are below...

Hang on a sec, it's a BMW developed performance engine, not a speed six. Even stating the point is bringing attention to an issue which doesn't exist. Any failures in the past were fixed under warranty and all cars prone to it were recalled and sorted out. These engines are pretty much bombproof and this concern should'nt even register when buying a well sorted M3.An M3 which is a melon can be seen a mile off, more than likely as it's owner will be wearing burberry and will have adorned it with replica AC Schnitzer tat.
Worry about a full service history/running in check/rtabs etc, but don't give a seconds worry to the engine as long as other important criteria are met.

Fact, if and only if the recall wasn't carried out on the pre 03 cars some years back. So if you get a pre march 03, which youll have to with your budget, youll need to make sure the recall was carried out.
If not it really could go bang and dont buy it, if so, I think it a very very low %age risk that engine will pop, <1%.
