m3,convertable,19 inch,tyer replacement?????

You will not make a great difference with changing the tyre profile or size unless you go for something with a lot taller sidewall or wider tyre, this in turn will mean you will also bugger up your rolling radius which will mean you read too low on your speed.
18's will make a difference but not masses as it is the suspension that is stiff more so than the tyres !!
If you want comfort I would swap cars !! not tyres !!

I've got a Z4M now (which is even rougher!)
I had Pirelli P-Zero Neros on it, with 19"s. Good tyres, but I had a set of 18"s for trackdays, which improved the ride a little. Unfortunately the car is just not set up to give a smooth ride, especially on bumpy roads.
I never felt it was unbearable though - you may want to get the suspension checked to make sure none of the coil springs have broken? This is a common problem on the M3.

there are quite diverse views on 18s versus 19s size however I face the same issue and seriously thinking is this going to be a lasting relationship with the car? ...and if so and if I am not bothered about resale value, I'd happilly prefer 18s better ride+price to 19s better looks+ handling(?) (my opinion only of course)
the downside if you were to sell it with 18s on, the market would price you down versus having 19s on
