E46 M3 Car Tax question

I'm considering buying the above car, but a bit confused about the road tax!
If the car is pre March 2001 then the tax will be approx £185-200, but where I need clarification is for later cars. What the band/cost will be now and also what it will change to in the future. Also are there any other registration date 'cut-offs' like the 2001 one?
I hope someone can shed some light on this for me as I've looked at the budget report and the BBC web-site, but they seem to conflict!
