Yes they are, however they will lose the factory finish mirror shine on them. Also, they will be more prone to milky water spots unless you go to a decent refurber such as Pristine Wheels or Lepson to do the job.
cheers for the post ali reza had the same query for the 19'z on my m3.....so i cant get the chrome factory finish if my wheels need refurbishing?Unfortunately not Al. The mirror finish and lacquer is done with equipment and methods which are beyond refurbishers. Some may bring it to a polished finish however the lacquer will become milky and detach due to water ingress within 3-6 months. The best company for a full professional refurb appears to be Pristine (If you do a search on mtorque.co.uk you will find posts by many satisfied customers). The finish is more of a standard alloy and looks more solid, with no reports of the lacquer peeling away.
So the choice for anyone wishing a refurb on the E46 M3 OEM rims comes down to 4 options:
1)Go with a cheapie/local refurb then spend the same amount in 5-6 months when the lacquer starts peeling away/gets milky spots in it (even quicker on wet/salty roads)
2)Invest around £450 or so getting them done by top end company like pristine wheels and lose the standard mirror polish look but ensure their longevity
3)Have the lacquer stripped, any kerb damage repaired and the rim bought to a mirror finish. This will mean regular cleaning/polishing/sealing (once or twice a month) but they will look as good, if not better than thr original finish with no fear of marks appearing
4)Buy some replica CSL rims instead which do away with the lacquer crap, are lighter and some might argue look better, though will cost just shy of a grand I think.
I'm personally going down the lacquer removal/polish look as the M3 looks so damn good on mirror finish rims.
Hope that helps
