Missing Pixel's ?

Hi, I have a E39 M5. After a 6 hour trip to the Peak District a horizontal line started to appear in the display. The next morning i went out and it was fine but slowly started to fade again after a further 3-4 hours driving ? Why is this ? Do i need a new display and if so how much are they ? I can live with it but i know its not going to correct itself as these things never do..
