Cooked Brakes - Can any one recommend Performance Pads?
Discussion
1999 M3 Evo Coupe.
Haveing owned may M3's I have always found the brakes to be of a good standard, and not needed to go away from std BMW.
Does anyone have experience with different pads like ebc greenstuff, that have or do work well with std bmw discs and caliper.
I know braided lines and dot 5.1 fluid make a differnence, but at the mo the peddle feels fine, unless ive been heavily braking for a while.
cheers
John

Use OEM Discs
Upgrade the fluid as you mention(5.1)
Stainless Steel Braided lines are an idea, not a necessity
Try Ferrodo DS2500 Pads or Pagid Fast Roads
I have this very setup on mine and it works quite well.Upgrade the fluid as you mention(5.1)

Fpr proper track use though I would recomend an AP setup or similar
Unless you are changing the whole set up I understand Evo disks are ok.
Pagid RS29s have been recommended to me if you are doing road and track along with upgrading the fluid to APracing 660 along with changing the brake hoses to braided items.
The Pagid Pads are around £400 for front and rear. The Goodrich hoses are a tenner and Taffyracer sells the fluid for £14 a 1/2 litre bottle (you'll need 2)
I'm off to the 'ring for Easter weekend so that plus getting the brakes done means I have not gone for the pagid option due to the cost. I did a lot of research into EBC yellow stuff (more track oriented but ok for the road) and they get good reviews and are 1/2 the price of the pagids. Fitting the new pads/fluid and hoses at the weekend so will report back after Easter with a review.

cheers guys.
What sort of a job is replacing the lines, as the rears go over the petrol tank, and when my last one had new rear lines the tank was removed for the job?
Has anyone tried the green stuff pads, as they seem a good price.
Could be well off the mark but I'm not sure that the rears go over the whole tank - i.e the replacements don't seem long enough. If I had the time I would have done them myself. What sort of a job is replacing the lines, as the rears go over the petrol tank, and when my last one had new rear lines the tank was removed for the job?

Avoid the Greenstuff's like the plauge though, they are grabage.
Greenstuff pads are designed for light cars with up to 200bhp - I'd leave well alone.
Can heartily recommend Pagid RS29s - absolutely awesome. Try talking to Performance Braking, their customer service is superb, and they do decent 5.1 fluid for a few quid a bottle.

I've had to lots of rear lines done on both cars they took the tank out (or lowered it)
Ill try some pads, though feel the job of repalcing all the lines may be a bit intensive, dont like to get to dirty any more (jobs round house are apparently more imnportant lol)
Need to get all the wheels off next job and clean arches / waxol them, + need to replace the engine cover.
no rest for the wicked. Thanks for afvice.

Just came back on line to say !!! DOH Dime bar moment, you only change the flex hoses, as the others are already solid!!!! lol
Do you use the old plastic under the resivoir cover to stop the fluid all running out, or drian it all off, then re bleed system with new fluid. (Havent done this since the escort 1760 days)

Pagid pads are superb - I run RS29s on my Evo (albeit using a Brembo caliper). What is great about the Pagids is the fact that they bite very well from cold - something not all performance pads can do.
I'd recommend a set of RS29s for the front and Motul RBF600 with braided hoses as a very cost effective upgrade. Keep your existing front disks if they are in good shape. Over time you could replace the rear pads with a Pagid series replacement but I personally wouldn't bother.
