Only problem with that idea is any that wish to take part will no doubt need to spend at least half an hour of everyday posting their sightings? These cars are indeed great but hardly a rare sight do you not think? I, for one, prefer to make my self known at the time of spotting others although I do tend to find that most are not all that receptive like, for instance, VW camper owners are! ( I am not sure if that is a good or bad thing really )
Just looked at your profile and see that you and I share a common interest ( more than I first thought anyhow ).
If you fancy a run out to GoodWood on the 30.3.08 then please, feel free to join a few of us on here that have, or are arranging to meet for breakfast at about 9ish @ the flying club cafe which is located inside the track; Go through the tunnel and turn left, then go to the end of the road and it is on your right. I originate from Morden and it is not a bad run from those parts to GW, ( A24, go all the way to the end and turn right onto A27, GW is signposted just before Chichester ), the only way that it could be any easier is to come and pick you up myself but that rather defeats the object.

Well I spotted an E34 M5 touring this morning. Left hooker but that is seriously rare.
I think he might be suffesring from some BHP loss though because he couldn't out accelerate my 330d from standstill to 60. Never got the chance to find out what happened beyond that. He did do a 120mph fly past later though.

Thanks for the input guys - i was thinking more along the lines of the rarer M cars - Z4 M Coupe.... i haven't seen many of them since owning one ,M cars that stand out from the rest...the one's that have attention to detail. Those are the ones worth spotting, as the driver driving those kind of cars will be the type of person who is a real enthusiast and they will appreciate another driver's attention to detail. Anyway that's just my option ! Cheers
I think all ///M drivers appreciate attention to detail.
I drive an e39 M5 because I need the practicality of four doors and a decent sized boot, but it does'nt make me appreciate the details of BMW's finest ///M division any less, or make me any less of an enthusiast !

In my experience the real 'enthusiasts' tend to be those driving a second hand more practical model. The new cars (not just at this point in time) are largely bought by those who just want the top rung model, but will trade it after 3 years for the next must have car. And I have seen most M3 and Z4M verts driven by orange 'yummy mummies' round town. The older models that have lost a large amount of prestige are the ones whose drivers just want a great car and not just a fancy BM.
Anyway, 'enthusiast' is too hard to define, and just as much bks as cars showing their owners to have 'attention to detail', or anything to do with their personality etc.

I'm with you chap. I love seeing anything "a bit out the ordinary, a bit special" I can't remember the last time I saw another E34 M5 on the road and I have only seen 3 E30 M3's before (apart from race tracks or car meets). I drive 30,000 miles a year and in the daily drive situation I rarely see the special cars.In the past year and 30k odd, I have seen on the motorways and A-roads:
1 x E28 M535i
1 x E9 3.0 CSL
1 x E24 635csi Highline
1 x E30 M3
What's wrong with having a spotters thread for the older stuff?
I got excited today when I was following an E36 M3 Evo saloon!
I'm all for it!
