hi, im new to this site. i have a m3 which i love and i only get to drive at the weekend due to work. the thing is i really need a car to tow my jet ski at the weekend but i don't want to buy, run, insure another car so does anyone know if i can make a detachable tow bar from another e46 coupe fit as bmw don't list a tow bar for the m3 and i don't know why.it could because of the exhaust or hopefuly just the rear diffuser panel.can anyone help.

You may have to sign up to www.mtorque.co.uk/ if you get no response as there will be more M3 owners on there,

You cannot seriously put a tow bar on an M3. Get a mate to tow it for you, that way he is guaranteed some time on the jet ski. Do NOT put a tow bar on your M3

well if you really must do it eventhing's possible, I'd get detachable tow bar from BMW for a E46 coupe http://bmwfans.info/original/E46/Cou/330Ci-M54/ECE... then modify it to let the exhaust throw it would then need strengthening, then would probably need a small custom back box, all in all wouldn't be a cheep job that's for sure

I have a removable tow bar on my E46 M3 (for towing a glider). As well as the normal kit for an E46 Coupe, the only extra required was to remove a carbon fibre bumper unit and replace it with a steel unit from the Coupe. Everything looks normal from the back - what you see is just a cover for the bumper - and everything works fine.

Since this solution is not homologated for the M3 there may be a problem with the law - and perhaps with insurance. I told the people fitting the tow bar that I would only use it on the airfield.

i would love to see some pictures of this, where did you get the tow bar from, what make is it and where did you get it fitted. did you have to buy a new bumper section that fits around the exhuast or did you cut a hole in it
