Hi All,

Bought a fully loaded used 52 plate E46 M3 SMG Cab today. Has the Jewson Lot plus a Dension ipod intergration and extra sub and amp that can be taken out etc.
By all accounts worth £750.00 total plus got it privately and the chap put 6 months road fund and 12 months MOT plus has 4 newish MP Sports with about 1000 miles or less in them. Oh....and rear LED upgrade lights. One downside the RIC was commenced at 2500 miles about circa 1k over due although one of my best mates is a BMW Main agent mechanic and he said that is from a techanical POV no issue at all.

Spent £19k with no hard top think it was a reasonable price perhaps a small amount more than I wanted to pay however it is Titan Silver with black nappa.

Anyway reason to bore you all with the above is to set the background to the situation.

The reason I have posted is to say that from the get-go of dealings (the owner e-mailed a copy of the service doc and the PDI stamp was from the Netherlands) I questioned it then and he told me he doubted it was an import however due to his schedule I only had the VIN number supplied today and when my mate checked with BMW it WAS an import.

OK so we are getting there! When I spoke to sales they claimed that I would need to scale back my offer as (even though the vehicle is UK spec'd and RHD to the nines) as an import it has an effect on the risd value which worried me.

I checked to make an informed decision with a reputable BMW indy and he said it didn't make a bean of difference to the car's value at this stage of it's life.............So now I am totally confused!!!

Can anyone offer an opinion. Slightly acedemic now as I did complete the purchase as in my mind I can't see it being a problem.

P.S. The has covered 47k with a FBMSH.

Just interested in peoples thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

Personally I would be thinking what does a RHD car have to do in the Netherlands; the only reason I can think of (but then again this is from personal-and maybe slightly paranoid- experience)is because I saw a German car that was RHD and found out it was a demo or press car which usually means a lot of 'hard' miles early on. The car I saw was orginally German reg and had a (surprise surprise) complete engine change at 20k (by BMW). Some buyers particulalry those who are not so confident with assessing the car condition might be put off. I must say the car I saw seemed in very good condition and the price was good but because of the history I walked away. fBMWsh does provide for some peace of mind and if your BMW mechanic friend checked it then you should be OK.

What you bought you've bought , enjoy the car and if something goes wrong just blame it on yourself!

All the PDI stamp means it was bought through a netherlands dealer but was probably exported straight over here, they can buy cars in RHD, there are thousands of cars that are bought in this way

yes I agree the first owner I think bought the car from the Netherlands and spec'd it as a UK RHD car to save a few bob which may dovetail with why the car has all the bells and whistles because of the cost savings he made. I am also certain that 5/6 years ago it was all the rage, buying cars on the continent on gaining a tangible discount.

There were lots of cars that came the personal import route, as there were lots of savings to be had. I am looking at an SMG Coupe that came from the Netherlands, is spec'd to the hilt and was sold by Sytner as an AUC car, so forget your worries,if the car is a good one and enjoy it!

As long as it is UK spec then not a problem as its outside the 3 year warranty BMW UK provide.
More of an impact to its value will come from the overdue rining in service.

yes I did wonder on this, do you have any idea of how much? Just hoping that by paying 19k i haven't over paid.

My friend the BMW mechanic advised that mechanically it's no issue however it looks like it might have a bearing.

Oh well too late now I guess however i can't stand losing money or paying over odds for anything. However i have been looking for ages since selling a Porsche for a titan silver or strong resale colour that is spec'd to the max and didn't want to lose this one.
