If you buy any M car do yourself a favour and dont think of the money.
Any M car is worth it over the standard ones.
The answer to your question is yes, it is worth it, there is a massive difference.
i have been playing about with the idea of a Honda S2000, BMW Z4 3.0Si coupe, Z4m Coupe and a 2002 996!Any M car is worth it over the standard ones.

i cant work out what to go for...!!! i basically dont want to lose too much on depreciation!

Out of the list you have given I would imagine that depreciation would be less on the S2000, they seem to hold their value quite well.
The cars you have mentioned I am presuming would be within 1 to 2 years old?
Sadly mate I think you would lose money on any car that age. Have you considered a Z3M, E46 M3?
Do your homework and you could pick up a minter and only have 2 to 3 grand depreciation in as many years.

i test drove 2 back to back and the 3.0 was good, but the Z4M was soooo much better.. plus with the M you never have that moment at the traffic lights, when your sitting in your 3.0 and a guy pulls up next to you in a M lol (i did that the other day )
when i bought mine i got a much newer, lower milage, better spec'd M for about 4 grand more than the 3.0sport i looked at... okay so more fuel, more tax, more insurance etc but more fun! and i guestimated the M would depreciate less overall as its more of an enthusiasts car
