Hi all,

Please can you tell me how to get the battery in my E46 key replaced? Recently the key only works if it is in very close proximity to the car and sometimes takes several pushes to get a response.

Is it only possible to do this at a BMW dealer, or are there cheaper alternatives?

Thanks,
Scott

If you have a steady hand, a soldering iron and some time to find a battery its cheap and simple to replace the old one....if not go to a local BMW specialist and pay them to reset the system and charge you maybe £140.

Here is a link which may be of use....hope it helps.

Honestly, try this, put the key to the side of your head making sure the fob is actually touching your head and press the lock/unlock button. It should work. Strange but true.
