I've been told that the new M3 comes, for the first 1.500 miles running in period, with an ultra thin oil that at the first service is changed with a sinthetic.

Any of you has infos about what kind of oil could it be? or is it just a BMW tale? and...do you know what oil BMW recommends for its new M3 after the first running in period?

Tis true. They are pretty stern about changing it around the 1200 mile mark.

You will get a spare litre of the new oil used smile

Why worry? Surely you'l have the running in service done at BMW so you really needn't worry mate.

It's not really a worry...of course i do trust the guys at Bmw but i like to know what they do to my car and, apparently, they do not seem very open to tell what they do, what they use, etc etc...

I'm not sure if this is true, I know the benefits of using a lighter oil for running in but i was assured that they used the standard stuff

Don't know which is used for run in but I believe this is true.
I think they replace the thin oil by the Castrol Rs Formula 10-60. This is written on the front side of the engine bay in mine (already 700 km in 3 days not a record but what a car....)

The new exhaust sounds reeeeaaaaly good, specially at mid range, has a deep full bodied sound, like a well mannered old style american muscle car engine, then, over 4.500rpms flow towards the infinite...sorry for the poetry mood, just left the M3 in the garage and i'm still intoxicatedbiggrin

(vid by tomorrow....)
