Just thought I'd thank Stu for all his help & advice over the last couple of weeks. I am now the lucky owner of an '02 Carbon Black E39 M5. Hooray! Pics to come. And lots of questions...!

Howdo !
Had my 2001 e39 M5 almost a week now having had both a 3.6 and 3.8 e34 M5
First impressions were very comfortable, lazy torquey engine and thought that I had maybe missed the point?
Had a dry road today on way to picking up little gavm5 from childminders so on with the sport button and OH YES thats what I remembered from the road test and the reason I wanted one- no more waiting for the big six to rev, this is instant power with a super taught ride that gets better the faster/harder you go, and 4th gear !!!!!
Just had full geometry and aswell so everything where it should be and nice comment from suspension specialists that car was clean underneath and needed very little adjustment.
Biggest thing for me is that the whole car feels "safer" when I have Mrs gavm5 and little gavm5 on board, and thats not from the extra airbag point of view but also not waiting for edc suspension to blow, big six heads to warp etc.
Yes ANY M5 will cost a lot to run (always a £60k car), but you will soon know its true worth.
Enjoy, and if like me, count how many other family saloons put out 400bhp in standard trim for the price of a new mondeo with insurance to match

Tempted to get one on the side but it wouldnt make sense. A car i will deffinatly own one day. Enjoy mate. smile

My ex's dad had one and he let me borrow it the one day..loved it. Id have to sort an exhaust and remap etc and push the power upto around 440bhp. Still a hell of a car though. Pics? smile

You would need headers to reach that power - remap and catback exhaust will not do it.

I have the Britalman exhaust on mine and i'll try and record a tunnel clip for you some time-much more high pitched than the eisenmann.

Its like a symphony of a F355 and and a big yank v8 all in one.......
