Hi there

This is a post off of the e36coupe forums by myself but I thought I'd put it here too for posterity wink

I picked up a nice techno violet convertible M3 a couple of weeks ago and have a couple of questions if you wouldn't mind giving me the benefit of your wisdom.

1) The jack is missing, is it specific to the M3 or the E36?
2) The air con unit plays up, blowing random whether on or off. Searching this forum indicates the resistor, the hedgehog one. Is it likely to be this or should I look for anything else?
3) For some reason, the remote lock doesn't operate the passenger door. At the weekend I accidentally sat on it while in the car and activated the alarm, have I done something weird?

As for the car though all I can say is that I am mightily impressed indeed. It's not the easiest car to drive, the clutch and the accelerator are quite heavy and I have been playing with the seating setup pretty much all week but on the plus side, at 90k it feels brand new, it's been really well looked after, it goes like stink and leaves me feeling pretty good after I have driven it. I can't wait for the better weather and a track day or two.

Cheers

Welcome Sambam

Jack is an e36 standard jack. No idea on the other questions although I'm sure somebody else will be able to help.

Pedals and seating issues come as standard. The lock issue won't be to do with the remote.

As for the aircon pump, I couldn't tell you. Mine blew up in a cloud of smoke the day I bought the car!

The alarm activation will be the 'rape' alarm (as I like to calll it wink). If you hold in the grey button for a couple of seconds it activates the alarm.

Aircon could be the 'hedgehog' ressistor and is worth a try as a first port of call before anything else. A decent Indie will no doubt help you out with that one in the likely event that a re-gas is the order of the day.

What are you used to driving? Have to say mine feels as natural as having a dump to drive but perpetual navigation via the passenger window tends to have that effect hehe

Dunno the answers to your questions apart from the aforeanswered jack one. But well done on your purchase.

Now pop across to e36coupe.com and get a DaveF induction kit. It's an absolute must have item

hi jack is a standard jack, the heater blower having a mind of its own is very likely to be the resistor and as for the central locking i dont think is an alarm programming problem its more likely to be a fault. i dont know of any alarm that can individually lock/unlock single or combinations of doors

Thanks all for the replies, I'll look into the heater and the lock thing the weekend and let you know.

I have been driving the wifes A3 for the last 6 months which is effortless to drive, in fact it's as effortless as it is boring. I also have a 205 gti (project car) and used to have an Elise, both have a similar clutch to the M3 but a much 'freer' accelerator pedal. I am getting used to it though and it really does seem to get better with every hoon.

Won't be long until you don't even notice.

I upgraded from the 328 sport to the M3 Evo. Same layout, same size etc etc etc but the M3 felt like a completely different car to drive (not just the power - everything!) and took a while to get used to. Now it's just natural.
