Just wondering how many really special low mileage cars are left. I am actively looking for one but am a little suprised how infrequently they come on the market..My mate purchased a stunner 8 months ago but suggests he was looking for 18 months to find the right one...

The number of low mileage 2001 or 2002 cars is falling so you may have to hunt. Are you looking for something with around 20-24,000 miles or less? They do appear but expect to pay towards 26K for a really good car possibly with a warranty!

I bought one about 10 months ago. 03/03 22k miles, Sat Nav/ Bluetooth Big spec. I paid £25,500 from an asking price of £26,500.

I looked on here: http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/auc/advanced_search/0,,... every day. Hexagon Highgate always seem to have 1 or 2 good ones, but at crazy money.
You need to wait until one crops up at a dealer that is a little bit scared of such a unusual car. Then be the very first person there.

The dealer I bought mine from put it on the net before it was acutally taken in PX, I was there within hours of it being on site(still dirty and totally unprepped, best way to see them in my opinion) Done the deal and went back a week later to pick it up after they had done their AUC prep.

After runnin it for 6 months/5,000 miles I sold it to the said M specialist main dealer, and made a profit. Very unusual but possible when one dealer is not fully aware of what is has, and another is very keen to own such rare metal.

There's one in Pistonhead classifieds.

Don't know how to do the link, but it's 2001 '51' reg, 28,000 miles in Estoril blue, with black leather and loads of spec. Trader in Bournmouth has it, and it's up for £24,995.

Same trader also has two black ones, one a '51' plate with 41,000 miles at £22,995, the other an '03' plate with 53,000 miles for £21,995.

From the photographs, all look to be in mint condition.

I appreciate the very best cars with low miles are going to cost. With ref to miles I would really like to find one sub 30k but am aware condition, originality and other factors must always be considered. The 28k blue car has sold...

oh ffs - these cars will take the miles no worries. Mines on 127k, had a clutch change at 57k (god knows what the first two owners did to it), not a whisper of complaint since then. Still pulls like a train, all day, every day.

As long as you use the right oil you'll be fine - mine gets through about 2 litres between services, and it doesn't get molly-coddled! biggrin

Mind you, brake pads only last about 15000 miles tops.

My brother in law has a estoril blue one 52 plate with sat nav, two tone leather and sunroof (rare so im told) took nearly two years and 25k to find it, one owner full history and 45k needed a clutch when we looked at it so had a new one when he picked it up, trouble is that now he's got it doubt he will ever sell it. Thats why i dont think you see many for sale in that sort of condition.

Hey there, just keep looking, there are a few good ones that you are looking for around, just keep looking on the classifieds on here and ebay of all places.

Should have kept the Black MK1 you had, never would there have been a better ring M5.

Munich Legends have one or two either in or soon to be delivered with low mileage, ie under 30K. Give them a shout!

Timeless and classic in my opinion !
Original owner that specced the car new ticked a couple of individual boxes on the spec sheet and voila - an e39 M5 that stands out rather than the halfords / chav two tone leather boring aluminium that the majority have.
( only a personal opinion, flame suit already on)

No no no.. Camel poo yellow is not the interior colour of choice to maximise resale on a dark coloured car.. rolleyes

All a matter of opinion I guess.
May take longer to sell, may not if that right person is looking for something 'different'
