Have a look at www.m5board.com.

Don't waste your money on a car with that mileage!

Simple rules to follow in NO specific order.

High oil consumption, what does teh current owner use and how does the car sound when started from cold?

How many clutches has the car had, any proof of bills?

Look for uneven wear on the inside edges of the tyres.

Look at the underside of the exhausts, new cats x2 will cost you around £1400 each!

Check electrics, all of them, look under carpets if possible...mats came a standard.

Service history, also I would want to see loads of bills and also talk to the garages too.

Check under bonnet for frontal damage to bumpers and lights etc.

Look at windscreen edges especially at the bottom corners.

Check for rust under the boot lid and around the rear hinges

Listen for wind noise around front windows....rubber seals perish

Finally the brakes can be a little weak from cold, and if you want to do track work the single piston calipers will need replacing with a decent kit...AP, Movit, Stoptech etc.

Great cars, like their petrol and oil....but look at more than just the one, loads of cars out there from £12-15 K.

Also, how much BHP will that car have lost? As cars get older they tend to lose power as well.

Avoid ! Also if you seen the one at clarks (not the full name but gives you a steer incase you are considering one there) ignore that too - the guy is an arse and sells completely botched up motors. Last time he tried to convince my friend that a steering rack problem was normal !!!

wouldnt bother me as long as its full of history and use the mileage as a tool to your advantage to bid him in the nuts because it will be hard for him to shift with those miles

As everybody says.....you get what you pay for!!! I would NOT buy the car myself but each to their own.

im going to have a look tommorow anyway..the chap whos selling it was offered a cheap house (apparantley) and hes been stalling the sale of this car for 3 weeks.he originally wanted 9k for it,because hes been trying to raise the money elswhere, hes only just put the tyres on.last thursday.ive been trying to trade in my car against it (originally) but he wanted cash.im not being funny but i dont agree with "you get what you pay for" theres some seriously uncsrupulous people out there and im sure in the wrong hands someone could take some miles off and manufacture their own service history.so im hoping its a genuine bargain.however that said,i will walk away from the deal if need be.thanks for all your help and ill let you all know.

Nice one! It sounds to me like anyone who can afford to clock up that sort of mileage on an E39 M5 should be able to afford the running costs and servicing as well. Let's face it. It's E34 money and if an E34 had done those miles no one would bat an eyelid! No disrespect meant to E34 M5sbow At that price, if you got bored, you could even break it!getmecoat
