Why would you want to do that?

If you do, surely the non smg is the way to go.

Why would you want anything getting between you and the gearbox!?

If your going for an e46 go SMG - its awesome - much better than the porsche tiptronic.

When i want to take it for a blast round b-roads it goes into SMG manual mode which feels just the same as a manual, and when you want to just take it easy or are in built up traffic switch it to full automatic for the lazy drive !!

Get the best of both worlds !!

If you are going for the E36 SMG I've heard some bad stories - so you may want to stay clear !

E numbers, in BMW terms, denote the model of car. E36 was the 3 series made between 92-99 (roughly), E46 was the last 3 series, the E92 is the current 3 series.

Me three. Not great at low speeds, but a cracking tool when pressing on.

Me 4.
It's not so good at being an auto (nowhere near as smooth as an AMG Merc and will occasionally change at a bad moment, leaving you without power for a couple of seconds when you want it), but I drove both and simply loved the SMG in manual mode - IMO made the car feel more special.

Me 5.
You'll soon get used to it, but your passengers won't know what hit them when you shift with the paddles at 7500 rpm in S6 mode.

blonde driver has done a great job over the last two days of establishing that he or she knows nothing about driving or cars.

I'd go for the SMG as well. I've always been a manual person, but after driving an M3 with the SMGII gearbox, I actually really liked it.
Not that smooth IMO, but who cares biggrin Mch better than cars with tiptronic boxes I've driven, made me feel disconnected from the car, but the SMG was much better

Love it or hate it I suppose

Let me guess, Ford Fiesta ST in Burberry check, or maybe a Saxo (because you're so classy) with a bodykit and a phat ass stereo.

A footballer could put up an impressive list of cars (albeit all ruined with bling), but it wouldn't mean he knew anything about them or could drive.

Your wear your ignorance on your sleeve.

Aha! I've just been checking blonde driver's posts elsewhere on ph. The Alonso fandom suggests that blonde driver may be a green third class Ferrari driving fanatical anti-BMW, anti-smoking veteran PH troll.
