Cars in the UK are very cheap in general, so it doesnt surprise me

ETA: A quick look on autotrader and theres cars from the BMW network for 40k, and one or 2 around the 38k mark. UK = Cheap cars

1. Yes it's Cat D.

2. No it's very expensive. You can buy an AUC M5 for under £40k.

They're fast heading below £40k. I looked at an 06 in December, good spec, which was AUC, deal was done at sub £43k....but we couldnt agree on who'd sort out a stone chipped bumper. We left it (as the dealer's attitude stank, but thats another story...)

There was one on the AUC site at £39995 (now sold), but there are still several around the £42k mark, which could probably be had for around £40k.

And there was me thinking I had a deal on an 06 with 5500 miles for 50k last September!

The prices seem to be heading south rapidly!

same with all M5 - lots of hype, prices hold then fall into free fall then more stability

I think they'll be a bargain at c£30k and will find some enthusiastic buyers....assuming petrol isnt £8 a litre.

Ooo now this is interesting I'd not checked used values of M5's for sometime.. Does make me re-consider my plans to get an M3.. After all 40k for 507bhp is very tempting.

Yes should be a nice change of pace, heading for the South of France, 100kms or so north of Toulouse smile Where sadly a 1.8 tonne, RHD, 507PS behemoth M5 would not be best suited frown

all the best,
adam

Can anyone tell me what exactly a CAT D is? I.e. what damage/repair would it have had done?

Category D - Repairable salvage. Minimal damage, probably not structural, but insurer does not want to repair, even though it might be economic to do so. Often stolen and recovered after claim has been paid. Or for unusual models or grey imports where the difficulty of obtaining new parts hinders a quick repair. Does not need VIC inspection to return to road.

Cat C is repairable but needs a VIC inspection, ( csots about £40 to establish that the vehicle is what it claims to be ( Not a ringer)

Cat B and A are not repairable and must be crushed

Basically the most basic one. It can range from no damage having been a stolen recovered as stated above, to a door panel being repaired or replaced after a minor bang
