My car just passed its MOT with flying colours but I got an advisory about the rear tyres. I'd really like to replace them soon but I'm not sure which tyres to go for so I'm looking for some advice. Its an E36 pre evolution model, running 235/40/R17's.

Its currently got tesco value tyres (GT Radial) I was thinking about Toyo Proxy T1-R or Eagle F1.

I too run PS2's on my z4mc, but will most probably try the toyos next time round which should be in around 3 months time. They are said to have massive dry grip - hopefully we'll have a decent summer....

If you go for Goodyear make sure you get the new Asymmetric (or a significant discount on the older F1). I have the older type and will be replacing with new soon enough. Evo magazine seems to think the new tyre is very good...

Tesco value tyres! Arghhh!
Personally I would have the eagle F1 tyres. If you put them on the front too you may get a bit of tramlining on the motorway as there directional and have been known to do so.
I wouldnt ever put cheap value tyres on any car, especially an M3. The portion of tyre on the road at any one time is so small anyway I want it to be quailty.

Michelin PS2 on Z4M C. Difference to antiquated standard issue Conti SC is stunning! Much more dry front end grip, so much better in the rain.

Anything but the conti - too soft and I've just shredded a set after a single track day. That said, it could just be my driving laugh

A lot of kind BMW drivers have already left reviews of their tyres here

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyres_For/BMW/ - have a browse and see if it helps.

Anyone feel free to add your own smile

I use Toyo Proxy T1-R 235/40/17 front and 245/40/17 rear they are not easy to spin up at all, I've had cars with half the power that will wheel spin in 3rd but I've got to give it the full beans just to get it to spin up in 1st and very good grip in the wet to, almost to much grip sometime, spoils the fun driving

I am HUGELY impressed by the Proxes T1-R, especially in the wet. I tested them on my Z1 and they were so grippy, I ripped the F1's off the M5 and replaced them with T1-Rs. They are phenomenal.
