M6 Prices - Where in 2 years time?

One of the performance bargains of the last decade...just sold my 55 plate Awesome car!
In Autocar this week an article on the 997 S vs XKlardy somthing or other vs Maser. A subnote to the effect that the M6 wasn't included as all the others had it well beaten. I'm sorry but what an utter load of boocks. Fortunately I also get Evo too, so may cancel my subscription to Autocar...I think they are losing the plot!

In Autocar this week an article on the 997 S vs XKlardy somthing or other vs Maser. A subnote to the effect that the M6 wasn't included as all the others had it well beaten. What they said about the M6 frankly brought the rest of the article into disrepute. Performance wise the M6 is a peer of the turbo not the 997S.dazren said:

What they said about the M6 frankly brought the rest of the article into disrepute. Performance wise the M6 is a peer of the turbo not the 997S.HTH, the sub-article re the M6 is/was shocking: totally contradicting Steve Sutcliffe's long term ownership file of the same from the same mag! Indeed, he ended up favouring it over a brace of considerably more traditional - and exciting [than this round of GT blubber, 997 excepted] - bona fide supercars. Which coincidentally, was a conclusion I shared during my period of pre purchase contemplations.
Disposable, cheap and glib hackery of the lowest order. Despite the bias, I'm sure Evo's conclusion is more pertinent.

However, the 997 is a much sweeter and more involving drive.

I imagine if it were a dry road or if it were a BMW or an Aston driver doing the honours there may have been slightly different results?

Buying, living and long term, comparative realities with both may convince you otherwise. The M6 has the measure of a standard X50 and thus is hardly disgraced by the Xenons of it's successor.
I can absolutely assure you of that.
TG's comparison was about as meaningful as anything involving it's chief protagonist.

Sorry John I completely overlooked your previous form!
I run 'em side by side and they are exquisitely different but the M6 will get into your blood like many an M car: the Tubi exhaust is a good tweak but once you get over the fact of it's physical size, I've found it has quite a lot in common with a Caterham, er, spiritually!
The repertoire is genuinely multifaceted but it does take time to 'learn' it's foibles (principally the peculiarities of the transmission) but back to back hoons convince me of both cars' astounding worth and remarkable value.
At the end of the day, it's more a case of sublime GT v sublime (road going) uber sports car.

Hi Jon, sorry about missing out on the car...collected yesterday (sniff).
In truth the DMS upgrade didn't seem to make a huge difference in normal driving, little bit more urge perhaps and no limiter. As I said at the time though I'd probably still do it again + exhaust.
I've not driven a 997 TT so can't comment but I did have a Roock tweaked 993 and 996. The latter sadly left me a bit cold. The former was outstanding.
996tt is perhaps a little too clinical for its own good, has more torque and is more nimble than the M6, but M6 performance at the top end is epic. Perhaps I'm getting too old, but running up close to the limiter in the higher gears of the M6 was actually quite scary....very Millenium Falcon (about the same size after all). I don't remember the 996 ever feeling that fast, but as I say I'm an old git now!

Oooh blimey, I had just started edging back to a 997 too. Mind changing again! I'll go and give the M6 another go and hopefully have chance to stretch its legs a little more than the last couple of test drives. Hopefully late Feb, early March. If you get to one I'm sure DeR would take you out in the M6 at 185+.
It's a good day out where we've done many car comparisons etc, what's interesting is how close cars are sub 100 and how some cars only really show their additional strength at 140+. ie it's all pub talk if you are only going to drive them on the road within the limit.....
