Love the more laid back V8 than the 10 and the more relaxed approach. What da' want. Ali with his his best velvet boxing gloves or Tyson with after a week on red meat.. Choices choices smile

I tested both and bought the M5. The B5 was dull and soft. It felt big. The M5 shrank around me. Do you want a cruiser or a family car that can convince you it is a sports car?

To have just one, the M5. Just. Zod's assessment reads too harsh but in ultimate, comparative terms, is subjectively fair, afaic.

With hindsight, a B7 might yield a different conclusion - I suspect the upcoming B7S will be a real world T1000 ito the luxury-schnell axis.

I agree. If I wanted the B5's smoothness, then logic would point to the B7, a more complete combination of extreme power and luxury.

Bought the B5 in the end, but the Touring. Only 4 RHD in the country and one happened to come up for sale. I know there will be the odd occasion where I'll miss the hardcore element of an M5 Touring, but think for an everyday family the B5 makes more sense, and is probably quicker in the real world.

Enjoy the car, but explain what "in the real world" means.

If that was real world, then no car would be faster than any other car.

Real world means not having to worry about what gear you are in or what settings you have programmed for gearbox speed, power etc. Don't get me wrong - I can see that would be great fun perhaps 25% of the time, but for the other 75% having a load more torque at lower revs means easier access to acceleration.

Well, you've probably chosen the right car for you and I for me. I wantto have to put some effort into driving the car. I enjoy using the gears to get the performance out of the engine. That's why the B5 bored me.

Different strokes.

M5, simple as.

You just get a better class of owner driving an M5 (or M6 if they own a Salon). Those B drivers are mere wannabes smilesmile
