Labour rates.

Lots of specialists and dealers kicking about, but as good as they are, it would be useful to have a labour rate guide.

Most (E36) M3 owners are mechanically minded and aren't scared to doing the odd bit of minor DIY, but the major stuff where you dont have the equipment.

i think it would be a good reference point for owners, so need your help on this one.

If possible, can you list your specialists name, its contact number and its labour rate.

im looking for a specialist and price does come into it along with obviously the quality of their work.

My car is going to be a track car and daily driver and would prefer, that I start afresh mechanically, fluids, vanos bolts, filters etc. but dont need my pollen filter changed and have BMW charge £140 an hour plus VAT to do so, just because its on their Inspection II list.

Hopefully, this will be useful to other users both here and for other forums.

I use Highams Park Motor Company, they are excellent. Labour rate is somewhere in the region of £45 to £50 per hour plus VAT. This is from memory, so don't hold me to it!

hhm Well if you want someone who won't have your eyes out and has genuine E36 (and the rest) M3 track and race experience then you should really speak to Bexley Motorsport who are in Bexleyheath Kent so not so far from you.

I've been using these guys for about six years now with my E30M3 track car, E36 M3 road car (sold), E46 M3 CSL track/road car & E36 M3 Race car. Both the guys who run the place are genuine BMW and track day enthusiasts and they have a loyal following for a reason. They don't actively advertise for business and don't really need to. They also have their own Rolling road & 4-wheel alignment equiptment etc etc. and like Vixpy says... I won't use anyone else either smile

Bexley are known for their engine work on E36 & E30 M3's and Nigel has a reputation with these cars. Most the fron running and indeed the championship winning GrpA E36 M3 in the Kumho was mapped by Bexley Motorsport.

Their rate is competitive with the above I'm sure so give them a shout....

www.bmsport.com (0208 304 9797) and ask for Nigel or Jags (you can mention Tom off pistonheads if you want)

Tom www.houlbrook.com

(I'm don't own or work for Bexley Motorsport should you wonder... just a satisfied customer)

I would have to agree with Houlbt, Bexley Motor Works really know there stuff, I,ve been going there for years and any problems are always rectified. They have all the equipment you need whether it's a road car or a full blown racecar. I think there rate is £55 ph.

Interesting... well th eSMG is definately problematic in the E36 and you'll be much happier with a manual. Os ot worth it though, the conversion. Why not just sell the car and buy a manual

Well, for a few reasons really i won't sell it.
Firstly it'd be incredably difficult to sell a car that's in trouble. Secondly it'd be really quite difficult to find another e36 ///M3 with a history file as good as mine and in similar condition (check my profile for some pictures wink ) and thirdly i really do love the car and have had many happy miles and memories in it. It'd be pointless really getting shot of it and replacing it with another of the same which may not be as good underneith.

Only ever taken my e36 coupes to BMWORX in stoke mandeville, bucks. 01296 614646. Labour rate is approx 45 - 50 p.h, they have an awesome reputation locally and all really nice guys.
Russell is oneof the owners and he currently owns 3 e36 M3 coupes, in various states of trim, he has a car permanently stored near the 'ring that eats CSL's for breakfast so he would be a good contact for you to talk to.

Eats CSL's for breakfast..... point being? This doesn't really quantify anything? Tell me a bit more about these guys you use, also if you haven't used anyone else how can you compare?
