The CD changer has packed up on my 2002 M5, it a standard BMW item and does not get much use. Even though the unit is full of CD's the head unit says that its empty, loose connection perhaps?

Any suggestions?

If it's stuck and refuses to eject, it's the same as mine did in my Z4. Dealer replaced it once and and made some excuse about "not original CD's". BMW's head office said that was rubbish by the way and had a go at the dealer... biggrin

Anyway, My one seems to do this every six months or so and I now press the eject button once wait for a lack of reaction and then basically bash the cartridge a few times until it relents. Then I push it back in and all's normally fine again.

I know one day it will fail completely at which time I'll just junk it and stick an IPOD there instead.

If yours is a different fault, my advice is: junk it in favour of an ipod...

Mine does this occasionally.

Get the cartridge out, clean CDs, insert cartridge firmly. Whack CD unit on the side etc...... usually gets it going again.

Not sure if this is of any help but on the E46 M3's the cd changers are actually alpine units, if yours is faulty then you can most likely buy an alpine one off e-bay for next to nothing compared to what dealers might charge.

Otherwise it may be easy to repair.
