Had the Z on the dyno yesterday. Standard = 331 bhp (slightly above the norm apparently) Re - mapped = 352 bhp. The only none standard item on the car motor wise is a replacement panel air filter. An under drive pulley kit will be fitted next and run on the dyno to gauge any difference (the makers claim up to 11 bhp but I really don't expect any more than a few ponies if anything and the main reason for fitting it is to give the ancillaries an easier time and maybe improve throttle response a little). I have also been told by several sources that once the car has covered 15/20 K miles, a bit more power still should be liberated. Well, this is were it starts.......were it will end, nobody knows scratchchin

Thats a good increase for one of those..

Anywhere from 330 to 340 stock is what i've found.

Where was it done, Evolve?

Ray West of West Tuning in Thruxton. I have dealt with him before and was well pleased. I have left the car with him as he wants to fettle and fine tune until he is happy and ultimately, feels confident that I will be happy also.

Sounds good so far, can you feel any difference and what's an "under drive pulley kit"?

I will be collecting the car next week ( only if I can stop myself from adding to the modifications list ) and have not driven it yet but Ray assures me that the car feels alot more responsive and lively than the modest increase on the dyno would suggest. The re-map is really just altering certain parameters and shifting the power curve to make the car more sensitive to a bit of spirited driving. The top speed limiter is removed and the rev range extended by 250rpm as the M power motor is still making power by the time the standard rev limit kicks in.
The idea of an under drive pulley is that it is a different size to the standard and therefore does not sap so much of the engines power to drive the ancillaries. The idea originates from the states where it is common practice on V8 motors and as there is a kit available for the M, I thought I would give it a go.
I have put the KW 3 suspension on hold for now but yesterday ordered adjustable camber plates and a limiting kit to be added. Should have the car back Saturday week, may even go and collect on Monday, I swore that I would not be treating myself at Xmas again after last year but I have earned it yes

Sounds good!

My car put out 343bhp on the rollers at Evolve a month back, and they are looking at doing a remap on mine in the first/second week of Jan. If it results in a similar increase, then I might be seeing nearly 370bhp! Seems a bit unlikely though.

If you're still up for that meet in a few weeks, will be interested to see how it feels/drives now with the map in place!

I was under the impression that the Z4M had the new type of ecu and as such needed to also have the front wheels moving at the same speed as the rears to gain an accurate reading??

No, not true at all.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the ECU on the Z4MC was different to a standard M3. Sorry not sure of the details. Obviously the throttle response is much more "lively" on the Z4MC.

I'm very interested to hear more about GTWayne's mod experience and Sixspeed's. I'm still considering an exhaust upgrade. I love the sound of Sixspeed's GruppeM induction system but I'm concerned about warranty & insurance. Hang on, I've just realised how gay I sound.

I'll get my coat..........

It does have a different ECU to the M3.

Charlie was referring to the point that the front wheels have to moving to get an accurate reading.

No problems with dyno'ing them if you know how ;-)

That is interesting, that is what I was told by 2 companies, 1 being one of the better known remapping companies about

Well, the day has arrived and I will be collecting the Coupe tomorrow mid morning from Ray West. I will report back tomorrow evening ( I should have a good idea of what is what after my 100 mile jaunt back home ).

By the way, after speaking with Ray earlier today he said that the under-drive pulleys did virtually nothing so that £200 would more than likely have been better spent elsewhere but at least we know now eh?

The re - map has certainly made the car feel more zippy and even a little manic high up in the rev range. The easiest way to describe the change is to say that it now feels like it is in sport mode all the time before the button is pressed and once the button has been pressed, it feels more intense and urgent. On overrun at high RPM the car pops and bangs a little but it is nothing that can not be cleaned up a little when I visit Ray next year for my K3 to be fitted. As I have said before, I like the exhaust note and have no plans to change it although I may look at having some 100 cell sports cats fitted at some point in the future. Just need to find the time to get out and put some miles on the damn thing now, anyone up for s track day early in the new year?

Sounds worthwhile, Ray West remapped my 330ci a few years back, it was better but I didn't think it made enough of a difference to justify the expense TBH, the Z4M i'm told will produce an extra 20bhp or so so it should be more justifiable, always up for a blast

Blergh.. in bed with that sickness bug that's been going around. Ruined my NYE as well.

Fancy another go in a week or two? Getting mine remapped this weekend so we can compare biggrin
