Hi Guys,

I have just sold my TVR Griff 500 and am now looking for a more practical, but suitably exciting replacement and have decide to go for an E34 M5.

Before I get too excited and go out and buy one I have a couple of questions:
- Does anyone around, or close to, Hertfordshire have a nice example they would minbd showing me. It is always good to have a benchmark, without having to go all over the country seeing a load of dogs.
- Is there a useful buyers guide anywhere. I have signed-up to the M5Board, but not had the time to do a full on search just yet.
- Am I mad for doing this. Buying a car is never a rational decision with me, but having been stung with the Griff (over £6k in 6 months) I am reluctant to give my wife more amunition biggrin

Cheers,

Alex

Alex, I have a late model 3.8 LE and am often in Herts. What are you looking to spend and when are you around to chat about M5 ownership, the benefits and pitfalls?

Thanks Belleair302.

I am in Hertford and about this weekend. Weekdays are usually bad as I work in the city and don't usually get back until late.

Initially my budget was going to be £6k, but I can see that slowly creeping upwards towards £7k or £8k if I am going to find a good example.

On Sunday 9th Dec, about 15 or so of us are meeting at the Goat in Hertford Heath for lunch, so there will be a whole variety of E34 M5's there, 3.6's 3.8's and the odd touring or two. All of us are passionate about the cars, one or two are hugely knowledgeable about running costs, what to look for etc and who to buy from. Why not pop along? Day start at 11.30 am.

Have a look at BMW Car magazine this month.
A dozen E34 M5 and M5T owners try out the new E60......

Great cars, they do appear to have quite high running costs, according to the article at least.

Thanks Guys.

I will take a look at the mag and see what it throws up.

belleair302, thanks for the offer. I will certainly take you up on that and get in touch beforehand to confirm plans.

Cheers,

Alex
