E92 M3 - quicker than 997S
Discussion
Thou shalt not compare performance of cars at Bruntingthorpe and post up about said cars on forum. All cars are created equal. Saying one is faster is socially unacceptable and those that do so are to be persecuted.
Edited because it's the original post saying a 997S/RS4/E39 M5 where slower than an M3 didn't sit well with sensibilities of some of the readers.

Well? Don't leave it hanging man - what happened. I'm not 100% convinced that my M3 feels quicker than my old 997S (as fast maybe - but quicker?) so would be interested to hear more.Edited because it's the original post saying a 997S/RS4/E39 M5 where slower than an M3 didn't sit well with sensibilities of some of the readers.

At the VMax event mine was noticeably quicker than a 997S in a straight line, until it headbutted the limiter at 161mph.edb49 said:

I have owned both 997s and M3 SMG(both convertibles) and the M3 is slightly quicker at most speeds.
Explain? How were your M3s quicker at say 70mph than a 997S at 70mph?Seriously though, I've owned a 997S and a couple of E46 M3s too and neither of the M3s were quite as quick as the Porsche. My new M3 does feel at least as quick as a 997S however and I can believe that it may be quicker. Certainly in the real world on road I think it may be since it seems to have more grunt at low speed in high gears where the Porker might need a down shift to keep up.

Had a couple of drag races from 70mph to the limiter with a German 997S and the Z4M Coupe was quicker. Also had a play with a 996 GT3 and he could not get away from me either. Why wouldn't the E46 M3, especially an SMG keep up?Cheburator mk2 said:
