Hi,

I've got a problem with me '07 Z4M Roadster. Basically, when I press and hold the button to put the roof down the front of the roof unlatches and the windows go down a little. I can hear the motors whirring away, but the roof doesn't move confused

It sounds to me (being a complete layman and all!) that the motors have somehow disengaged from the roof mechanism. It's booked into the dealership for next Friday. Has anyone else had this problem and, if so, is there some sort of simple fix that I could try at home?

Thanks,
Dom.

Does the handbrake need to be on?
Press the button and nothing happens.... ha. Try my 1989 SL roof - a lever to slot into the roof each side of the header rail to release the hood, a windey thing to pull behind the passenger seat, both doors open, sun visors moved, etc etc. A good few minutes including walking round the car twice, all while I make a 'whirrrrrr' noise pretending it's electric.

They don't drop all the way on the Z4. They drop halfway and then go back up again. Sounds like a mechanic job to me rather than a quick fix unfortunately frown

Have you checked the flap in the boot is in the lowered position? Thats the only thing that stops the hood opening. IIRC that will prevent the hood being operated but from your description that isn't the problem. Dealers warranty job I think. On a Z4 starting with the windows closed the windows drop by about a 1/3rd before the roof moves and return closed position when the roof stops.

No I didnt mean mine. You can tell I dont want to sell it, by the price. But it makes the website look good in the meantime.

I've checked that and it doesn't seem to be the problem. It worked fine when I picked it up. Guess the dealership will sort it on Friday. Either that or my money back frown

Cheers,
Dom.

Just to double-check, you are keeping your finger on the button?

Assuming you are, does sound like a warranty job I'm afraid.

Can be one of a few things, cant say we have had any issue with the late 4's only when they first came out.

We did have an issue with the plastic anti trap in the hood frame snapping and jamming.
Several times I have come across objects trapped in the rear frame jamming it up.
And on a number of ocassions the hydraulic pump has failed or a line has cut in bulid.

Sounds shagged to me. Off to the dealer for (I hope) the normal impeccable service.

Whilst I've had problems *getting it in* to be serviced, never had any issues with the actual service nor the amazing number of times that you raise and issue and they fix it on warranty.

My partner once made a service engineer sick by driving around with him in the boot trying to trace a rattle on my, by then, 4 year old X5 - but the rattle was fixed at absolutly no charge.
