I've already got a DaveF, but just wondered what people's feelings are on Evo remaps if anyone's done it. Is it worth it, did it smooth out flat spots, was there a noticeable power/torque increase, did it alter mpg?

I'd be really interested to know before I splash out. I've been recommended by a couple of people (inc. DaveF) to go use B&W at Hounslow.

Thanks,

Jez

I have also been thinking about this so any info would be good!

JezF - where is B&W...im near Hounslow - have they got a website?? Also how did you find the difference with the DaveF kit? Also been thinking bout one of them for my E36 M3..where did you get it from?

Cheers!

Hi Chigs.

B&W's website is here: http://www.bwchiptune.co.uk/homepage.htm

I spoke to Jason, he is an ex BMW technician and they also service Beemers's. He will upgrade your software and do the remap (generic) for around £300 and you can choose from different maps that will favour mpg or power. His normal remap which should give 1-2mpg better economy and ~15bhp is the one I am likely to go for and it is supposed to iron out the first gear Evo flat spot.

Re the DaveF, it makes a noticeable difference (dynoed at 12-15bhp) and adds a lovely soundtrack to the engine note. Cost is £165 and you are best to contact DaveF via e36coupe.com.

I have been told by several people that the main power gains to be had from an Evo are air induction and remap. Exhaust changes are mostly for effect and less weight.

I'd still be interested in people's thoughts about remaps!

Regards,

Jez

I've got an induction kit, remap and exhaust, the induction kit made the car feel like it was reving alot more freely, and as you say the noise is fantastic, the exhaust has kind of taken over the noise of the induction kit and the remap has made a difference in the, "feel" through the rev range, 30 & 70mph don't have the lazy throttle response, however to notice an extra 15bhp on top of 318bhp (with mods) I feel is difficult to judge. I got my car mapped by simon @ www.e-maps.co.uk. Good service and he travells.

If I am wrong about this then I apologise but I'm not sure about B&W as they get their maps from a bloke who uses the name of ChippedUK and has a terrible reputation having been banned from countless forums.

Simon at e-maps has great feedback. Can't comment on whether it's worth remapping an M3 as I've not done mine yet. But I would make sure you go with a certified expert rather than on cost. I'd approach CA Automotive perhaps

I certainly don't know anything about your B&W comment, but is the Simon you refer to a different Simon to the one affiliated to E36Coupe.com?

I am also looking at getting a remap done, how about we arrange some sort of group buy if the matey at C.A. automotive is ok with it, if we give them £1000 in total i.e. £200 each for just plugging a laptop into the diagnostics socket... lets make a list

Not quite sure it works like that hehe

Go with Simon at emaps, I've done before and afters on his maps, and they DO work.

Vispy, can you tell me what the gains are then?

I'll not make any comments about anyone else as there are/will be many but I can wholeheartedly recommend Simon at e-maps. He helped me out a while back with a major problem I had with a broken ECU/Chip and never took a penny for his time.

One of lifes good blokes.

edited to add: I've just remembered that if anyone wants a ChippedUK remapped chip for a pre-95 M3 non-evo (which is all the details I was asked for) then I've got one sitting in my desk drawer they can have for free. PM me your details if you want it. Read into that what you will.

I'd just like to see some pre and post dyno results as companies are claiming 15bhp and 30nm more torque for an Evo remap and I'd like to see some evidence of this.

Come on, Mr Surrey Rolling Road, show us some piccies!!!

I believe the increase was between 10 and 15bhp, but don't have any graphs to hand.

Here are some before and after graphs from my S50 engined Z3M.

Typical gains are around 11-15 BHP with just a remap and more with a good intake system like Simota/Gruppe M and a heatshielded system like the Dave F.

Thanks, Maahny, but it's difficult to make out your graphs.

What torque & power increase did you see and who did your re-map? Also, what other mods did you have?

Cheers,

Jez
