Has anyone tried to sell their E92 M3 to dealer?

I haven't, but mate has recently chopped his in against a new X5. Had done 4,000 miles and got £2k below list as p/x. Obviously this needs to be taken in context - ie he buys a lot of cars from this dealer and was taking delivery of another £56k car but I guess it still is an actual 'real' deal. My guess would be if he'd walked in 'cold' wanting a straight sale then maybe £5k below list? I'll be chopping mine in in March for the new X5dSport twin turbo and will be hoping for as little pain as pos!
I offered an unregistered one to a number of dealers early/mid october. Most wanted to go down the SOR route. Had a few bids at circa 1K under list. Majority of people I spoke to just weren't interested.
I think the depreciation is inline with what you'd expect of cars in this sector....the fact that it is still just a few months into it's life is irrelevant it seems.
Getting closer to the first DCT cars as well now.

Know what you mean mate. As I had an example which was relevant I replied but did think WTF?! at the same time. Seems for some odd reason people are more interested in prices than the car itself - although interestingly, looking through past threads, most seem to be non owners.Pugsey said:

Personally, if you treat the car as you would any prestige, mass produced, sports coupe, you won't go far wrong, and maybe pleasantly suprised into the bargain.

No it wouldnt. It would just give one Sales Manager's opinion. Which will vary hugely. Will you please just buy something and stop asking about price.
FACT: cars depreciate. They always have, they always will. Get over it, or go and buy a banger.
But on a seperate note. Now is a good time to buy, its pretty slow leading up to christmas. This means plenty of stock about, and plenty of dealers willing to be more flexible on price. A bigger discount will help offset a few months depreciation.

Indeed. I test drove a new M3 this weekend, ostensibly to see whether I would consider buying a DCT next year to replace a 130 and TVR Tuscan. Despite mutterings about waiting lists and full allocations at the time, I had a call today from the dealer to tell me they've sourced a couple of un-spec'd manual cars which would circumvent the waiting list. If you want a new one quickly, now seems to be the time.To digress and actually talk about the car for once, I thought it was lovely. Great fun to drive, very easy to control some minor sideways action on a greasy roundabout, reassuringly rapid, and day-to-day practical. I'm just torn as to whether I'd be better keeping the Tuscan and buying a 335d; it comes down to whether the simplicity of owning one car would make up for the lack of sense of occasion you get from the M3 compared to the Tiv.

No offence taken Pugsey, and none meant when I say that you're probably a little removed from 'mr average' in the real world. There are still plenty of people getting caught out, mainly paying large monthly payments, and then getting a big suprise come 'balloon' time...... I'm not sure if this actually constitutes being able to 'afford', but it's certainly puts record numbers of cars on drives.Posted with all due respect of course!

I think the reasons we're all being such mismogs is:
– the car costs more than we hoped
– the reviews are worse than hoped
– secretly we still want one but are frightened bu the prospective residuals.
