Folks,

My 33k mile M3 has developed a bizzare and insanely frustrating fault whereby it will not idle below 2000rpm. When cold, the car starts on idle at about 1500rpm and then slowly rises to 2000rpm.

Naturally, this makes it almost impossible to drive - with the throttle acting like an on/off switch banghead

My Indie Mechanic (an ex BMW chap) has replaced the idle control valve but to no avail. He is now as confused as I am which doesn't help matters irked

Does anyone have any suggestions before I drive the 'effing thing off a clif? censored

After buying a 3.0 e36 that had had its vanos unit replaced, i had idling issues, we tried many things including cats, lambdas, plugs, injectors etc, and in the end, hey presto, it was the "VANOS"

Also not much help ;0)
