My car's warranty is about to expire - it is s 2003 M3, done just 35k....should I bother forking out...what is it...£1200 for another year's warranty?

What can really go wrong...nothing has so far...

Any opinions glady took!

£1,050 for the renewal on yours.

I've just renewed the warranty on the M5, and to be honest I'm still in two minds as to whether it's worth it or not.

What you must remember is that there is a £250 excess on every claim, so certain smaller items that are covered, you still end up paying for anyway.

I view the warranty as a disaster insurance, I took it so that I'm covered if the engine lets go, or I need the vanos units done, I also plan to sell the car next year, so I expect it will be easier to sell with the warranty, and I may recoup some of the outlay.

Go and buy a £1000 of Premium Bonds. 1. If you need the money you can sell them. 2. Chances are you may get a few wins, which means that you are earning on your cash rather than BMW......who lets face it, have pot loads.......

E46 M3... I wouldn't be without a warranty. No way. Below 60k miles I'd grudgingly pay the £1,050 for cover... above 60k miles I'd flog the bugger as £1,800 for cover is pure comedy.

Mich T - why do say you wouldn't be without one?

Interested in you views...but need some reasoning...

thanks

Big end bearing shells. If they go your engine could be trashed and a new one costs £14.5k. BMW fixed the issue on early cars FOC but claim that later cars don't need them doing. They also say that cars that have had the recall work done will be sound. However, I know of at least one case of a later car having them fail, and here is someone who has had the recall work done only to have them fail again.

Sorry that's just not right, the bearing issue is massively overhyped, as long as the car had the 1st service within 1200miles and or had the bearing recall done then these engines are generally perfectly capable of doing over 100k without trouble, a decent low mileage engine could be had for around 2.5-3k and there are many of them about. I had a similar dilemma on my M3 so i sold it, no warranty made no diffrence to BMW when they purchases it and if a warranty is a given for you then there are other places to look than BMW which are cheaper and more comprehensive

put the money in a high interest savings account and dip into it when necessary. I add to it every month so it will cover servicing/consumables etc (hopefully).
