Hi All,

Looking at buying an M3 SMG II Convertible. It is a high miler with FBMSH from a main agent.

Fully loaded, great spec. Worried about mileage from resale POV and also colour. I personally admire it, will others? Priced at £19995

Additionally can anyone conjure up the things to consider when buying? I know that the running in service is important and that disc and pads cost a grand.

Anyone give me a heads up?

Thanks in advance.

If you like the colour then others will too. I, personally love the phoenix yellow on the M3.
I didn't get to chose the colour of my car, the salesman (who i got on well with) called to say he'd ordered it in carbon black with black leather.

What colour leather has it got?

p.s. I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage (have a search on here for M3 and others will confirm the high mileage query)

Enjoy it thumbup

Yeah - don't worry about Phoenix yellow...it's Laguna Seca (especially with matching interior) that you should avoid. Yuk!

Yep d1bble, your right. I was thinking about it and then quickly realised I would be a bit of a muppett!

Long story short, made a stupid decision to sell my out of this world M3 SMG II Conv back in July 07 (02 with 22K on the clock) and bought a Boxster 3.2S for £19250 which is now worth only (3 galling months later) about 25p.

As a consequence I am now trying to get back into an M3 SMG II Conv and trade the Porsche for as best dosh as poss. No one wants it privately.

I want to buy privately on the M3 however I am stuck with this blooming Porsche.

Thanks for your time guy's, colour doesn't seem the issue however the mileage is.

If it's not too personal...

Why don't you like the Boxster and why are you selling it so quick?

What have you been offered for it?

No offers that's the problem. OK so not the best time of year and all that however I thought with the spec it has it would have sold.

Selling becasue it massivley disappointed.

I must say i too went from a SMG fully loaded e46 M3 to a 2005 987 boxster S and at times wish i was still driving the M3 even though i sold my M3 at the right time (mileage hitting 60k, due inspection service, needed new rear tyres and radio stopped working) and got a good trade in of 20k. The 987 boxster s is a fantastic car to be honest, good looks, amazing handling especially with PASM (porsche active suspension management) engaged but i miss the torque of the m3, the feeling ur face is being ripped off as u accelerate, plus in the m3 u get a different sort of respect from fellow drivers. In the boxster at times i feel a complete tart and tend to get jealous comments as i drive past etc where as in the m3 people are more respectful.....dunno hard to explain.
Anyway just wanted to say i understand your present situation but what i would suggest is that u try and get your hands on an m3 with less miles than 92k.....there are a few bargains to be had on m3's now too, good luck.

yes MPM you sum it up very well. I too miss the off the mark speed of the M3. The Boxster seems to take much longer to get there. It's almost cleaner in the M3 and OMG the exhaust note.

Mine is an 986 on an 02 plate, fully loaded and a stella bit of kit.....just something missing. Defo believe that Porsche holds the gravitas of marque and prestise over the BMW however having been in a very fortunate position of owning both, the M3 wins hands down.

Not certain the arguement might be different if it were a 911 however I only buy convertibles so don't know what wig 996 would give an M3 a run for it's money, I guess C4S Cab or 996 Turbo Cab clearly.

I feel awful at 31 to be moaning about owning a Porsche however just wish I had never sold the M3...........but then I wish I could be a stockbroker too!

Torque? I didn't think it had much torque...esp compared to the 335d (580Nm2)

s over 90k on it and drives and looks superb.

However, i don't think i'd buy one with that sort of miles on it if i was in the market. That said, i'm not swapping mine for another either!

Scary to see the Silver '51 plate go for only 12k....But it had hardly any spec...i.e no Sat Nav/TV, Phone, Folding Mirrors etc etc!

Saw a nice Phoenix yellow M3 this morning on the A339...on trade plates as well! Wasn't you was it?

Yes I kinda like Laguna Seca too, although I can't see how Laguna with Laguna could be harder to shift than Phoenix with Kiwi...eek
