E92 M3s: £3000 off list
Discussion
Well, many predicted it was going to happen, but you can already get E92 M3s £3000 off list.

Surprised it was so quick, though.

And?........ As stated in my prev post on another thread WHAT IS your obsession with depreciation on the new M3. It's starting to sound like a bit of green eyed gloating to me. Again £3k 'loss' on a new £58k car is nothing. Try driving a lesser new car out of a showroom and see what it's worth after 5 mins let alone 3 weeks! Are you a manic depressive or something?Example here:

No not gloating – honest! It's rationalising my disappointment! I was four years on the waiting list and cancelled my order because I felt the car was overpriced.I would have been gutted if having cancelled, the car then attracted big premiums.
For the peasants amongst us who do have to consider a car depreciating outside of our market expectations this doesn't bode too well for the CSL.
I wonder where the target pricing will be?...after the fairly sharp repricing of the E46 version, things could get interesting if BMW are not careful with supply and distribution.
Any news as to whether the CSL may be available with a manual box as yet?

Great phrase, clubsport. Sums up my position exactly.
I can afford a £50k ish car, BUT ONLY if it's a low depreciator – hence my obsession.

Thinking about a top spec 6-month old Z4MC for around £32k when I'm down and an early 997 for £50k when I'm up!
Good choices - but go for the Z, after all you don't sound like one to follow the herd and it's so much more FUN than the 997. Sod which is supposedly the 'better' car.Edited by Deutscher on Tuesday 6th November 17:37

It's interesting looking back in the forums...Deutcher and I had many conversations about whether the release of the E92 M3 would affect E46 prices. More than ever, it's clear that it will. If E92's are already being sold below list mere months after release, then that must have an effect on residuals of all the E46s...the most expensive latest ones will drop according to the value of the E92s...and of course that drop will cascade all the way down the line to the earliest ones.
As you say, Deutcher me old mate, £50K cars are viable for alot of people provided you have a reasonable expectation of getting a decent resale value in 2 or 3 years time. I'd love to say I could afford them regardless of depreciation, but sadly I'm not in that bracket....and if I was, I'd probably be looking at much more expensive metal!

FFS as I said some time ago and got "Flamed" for it, the New M3 as any other 50+K motor will be available NOW (waiting lists are B*llocks)
and all cars are open to offers from the off.
I have had a look at the new 6 series 635D (just out this week) and already been offered a 12.5 % discount and thats without trying.
We will take a good "hit" on these cars after only one DAY never mind three weeks, but we live with it, cos we love our cars and want what WE want now and are prepaired to pay for the privelege.

I agree with RS4John re the waiting lists. There were some cars that were so short in supply that the values stayed high for ages. But BMW and Aston and most others are all in the volume game now. There's no way they'll stifle supply and allow waiting lists just to protect residuals...they want to shift metal. If the demand is there, you can bet they'll make enough cars to satisfy it. So, short waiting lists for new ones...and no short term profit for speculators.
