Loads of new M3's for sale
Discussion
About 24 on here and 30 odd on autotrader are these speculators catching a cold or is it that the more that come up for sale the more owners get nervous and want to bail out expecting values to tumble.
I had mine on here with zero calls so I took it off as it really is very good but my new GT3RS is here in a couple of weeks so I should think about selling.
So where do we see a 6 week old 1000 mile £58K car in todays market

I expect these cars to take a pounding on resale. There wasn't nearly as much hype, expectation and interest from customers for this new model compared to the E46 and it's too expensive for this market segment to start with. My local dealer has been pestering me to take one that he can arrange for imminent delivery (usually means he has it in stock) but I'm staying well clear. Residuals on these cars will suffer even more when the DCT version is released.

With the greatest respect (and setting aside the fact that I'm not at all sure you're right - particularly regarding the price) so what? I've got my car now and am enjoying it hugely. When I come to sell I may or may not loose some money but hey, news flash, it's a car and that tends to happen! Buy drive and enjoy I say. Or don't in your case. Viper - GT3RS and M3 really are chalk and cheese. Why not keep the M3 as a smoker over the grotty winter months to protect your Porker a bit. I doubt you'll take that much more of a hit by waiting 'till the spring than if you sell it now. You're up against all the speculators who got it wrong and are bailing out at the mo.

About what I was thinking, when the first second hand GT3RS's hit the market early last year they traded at about list yet 8 months later when I sold my first one they we're several grand more .Now I don't for one minute expect this with the M3 but I think when they are seen and driven a bit more they will be in a little more demand hence why springtime would be good to sell
Also binning a grand a month on depreciation ain't to bad in my opinion.
Finally I bet that the new M3 slayers will be the buyers when the cars hit £30k,,,,,,,,,,Cheapskates

Think you so right about demand building too. I was lucky enough to drive a car before the launch in Spain and having read the launch - and subsequent - reviews I was almost doubting myself. The cars A LOT better than the prev. model IMHO and I think as more and more real owners get this point across demand will firm up nicely.
Wierd about RS prices. I had one of the first 997GT3s and thought that I'd done well to get out of it for list after four months. Turns out I could prob have held on to it 'till now nearly six months later and STILL got my money back.
Enjoy the RS - then it'll be time to try Italian.
Sadly I've been vindicated here.
GREAT car. Wrong time.
Housing market fvcked, credit crunch, people nervous. No one is buying nice new motors on credit at the moment so they're plummeting. 997s the same. Vantages the same. Ferrari 360s the same.
Once you can get one tomorrow from a dealer, for list, then prices tumble.

Tends to be the ones who've got it wrong who make the most noise and complain (NOT aimed at you Vesuvius). I'm still happily buying nice new motors as are most of my chums - but then most of us don't work in the city - or particularly need credit. As has already been mentioned here the right 997 certainly isn't plummeting and similarly 360CSs were stable or even going up last time I looked. Frankly even my 430 bought well in the summer will probably only drop a little over 10% when I flog it in the spring. Again as Viper intimated the M3 is at a lower price level where a bit of a knock isn't really going to matter too much anyway, particularly if the car has been used to keep winter wear and tear off a more valuable beasty.GREAT car. Wrong time.

Wise words indeed, We all take a "Hit" on all by the most exotic, just enjoy the car and swallow the "Hit".RS4john said:

Examples AMV8 at six months £list Private sale, GT3 at five months £list Independent Dealer (in retrospect should have got over list), AMV8 Roadster (one day old!) £2k over - I don't usually speculate like that but had just fallen in love with my 430! E46M3 at six months £2k off list to Dealer. Etc, etc.
Main thing is to get hold of one of the first of any new model and get out before bubble bursts. Bit different with my 430 but got lots of forward orders in for Fezzas too now I've discovered what I've been missing! Also, don't forget that a dealer will probably do a very different deal for a regular customer than the figs he quotes for someone who's just walked in cold. I've spent getting on for £500k with my local BM dealer over recent years for example so the odd extra £1k here and there on a buy back is probably easy for him to swallow. I still don't loose sleep over all this though and if these cars cost me £1ks to run I'd still enjoy them.
