Got my new M3 last week and very impressed with the way the car drives, however,

To me the paint finish is appalling it's as if the laquer was applied on "Orange peel paint" consequently although the paint is glass like smooth its rippled under the laquer.

I've been impressed with the dealer and am taking it for them to see but the suggestion is that this is the type of finish you get these days !.

Interested to hear any comments.

Thanks

I thought exactly the same thing when looking at a couple of new M3's over the weekend. On both the red and the black, the orange peel was terrible, especially on the flat surface below the window and before the suage line in the door. The bootlid was also very peely.

It would certainly put me off the car. I don't fancy wet sanding a £57k motor just to make the finish better! biggrin

The problem is the water based paint that manufacturers are using now. I'm guessing that the paint on the M3 is clear over base, so believe that it's the lacquer causing the orange peel and not the paint colour. I know that my current Carbon Black E46 has a finish way superior to the current crop of BM's.

Yep this is common on all new BM's, check the panel gaps on the front wings as well not so tight as they used to be. A few manufacturers are also having similar problems trying to get a good paint finish since the change to water based products I believe.
