Have you seen speculators trying to get a premium on the M3?

I know there have been one or two ads here in the classifieds, but has anyone seen the likes of Tom Hartley or others in the Sunday Times trying to make a quick turn on the new M3?

Or are these reports of instant availability at list true?

Sorry to bump this up, but there's another claim of new E92 M3s 'in stock'.

Any new model, like the M3 may attract a premium in it's first few months, but after the 1st year, you're sure to see a reasonable depreciation. Look at the RS4 for a good example. It was well bid to start with, but a mate of mine has just paid less than £42k for a mint 06, 5k miles car - list price around £55k..... Draw your own conclusion.
My local BM dealer actually has 2 cars 'in stock' at the moment - so if you like their spec, you could pick one up tommorrow at list....!
What is the truth: premiums or slow seller?

(There were several ads in The Sunday Times last week offering cars at a premium.)

I'm thinking slow seller at the moment. My local dealer has a couple in which have been sold but they are expecting a premium over list to release the demonstrators.

My local dealers have had many orders cancelled, Alpina's B3 TT with 360BHP looks a good bet at £45,250 includes BL/tooth and Sat-Nav, leather.
Only 0.2 Secs slower to 60 than M3, and it's got the auto box!.
Orders being taken now at Sytners for May 2008 delivery, they want £5K deposite though.wink

I take delivery of my car in a few weeks and am looking forward to it (just a bit!) Don't care who's asking what for them, cancelling orders etc., etc. or what depreciation is likely/not likely to be. Er, sorry - is that the wrong attitude?wink

Pugsey, I'm sure you'll love the car.

I'm just trying to make sense of two contradictory positions:

1. The cars are going for a premium (see Sunday Times and classifieds here).

vs

2. A couple of dealers have cars in stock at list.

I hope they get shafted - it's just the same as ticket touting, surely?

£500 premium??

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/202283.htm

That's comedy level. I guess some of these 'in stock' stories must be true????

This is all new to me!

As someone who sells New BMW's for a living could you please let me have the names of these dealers who have all these unsold M3's please......

I can't get one until late into next year, could even be 09 as we haven't been given our 08 allocation yet!!

It would be nice to ring my customers with some good news......

Many thanks in advance thumbup

Donut - good luck with that one! From following the various threads on here it seems that people who are actually buying these cars have either ordered a long time ago and therefore are about to get their cars or are ordering now and having a wait. You'd think at least one of these buyers would snap up one of these 'available now' cars we keep hearing about but they only seem to be heard about by people who don't want one. Strange don't you think? wink When someone says "I went into my dealer and bought an immediate delivery M3 to my spec." I'll believe it. Until then it's all rumours and third hand info.

Good points.

I want to hear a first-hand account along the lines of:

a) I rang every dealer trying to get delivery within six months and gave up - so I paid a £3k premium instead

OR

b) I couldn't believe my luck; I want an M3, wandered into my dealer and he said I could have one no later than November.

The whole issue seems to be surrounded in mythology at the moment (from both perspectives).

Just got off the phone to Coopers. They were very wary of my call. I asked what the time scale was from order to delivery, and was told '6 to 8 months'. When I suggested that I'd heard they had car(s) immediately available, he became very vague, said that he'd have to call BMW, 'we may have a car on loan, that we can sell'. After some more chat, he told me that they actually have a car physically at the showroom. It a black car, with red interior, well specced at around £57k.
That's from the horses mouth - although it seemed very much that he didn't want it to be common knowledge - Sorry James...!
Anyway - may have a look up there later this week - see what all the fuss is about..... Hoping it's not very nice, as £57k is a bit off the radar at present...
