Hi,

My dad is thinking of buying a BMW.
Either a 3.0d X5 kitted out or an 02-06 M3.

Today,
We took the X5 and M3 out for a test drive with the whole family (5). Any advice on what mt dad needs to look out for and how much he's looking at. Was blown away with them both.

X5 is an extremely luxurious and smooth ride which can seat 5 comfortably. No slouch either smile Loved it....

But the M3 was just soooooo quick!!! yikes Fastest car ive been in and ive been in a Carrera! Me and dad preferred the M3 but everyone else preffered the X5 simply because the M3 scared the living CRAP out of my sister. thumbup

Anyway,

Advice on things too watch out for? Running cost? Fuel consumption etc.........

Thanks,

Olie biggrin

Don't mean to be a spoil-sport Olie, but both these topics have been covered to death many times over. Try doing a search on both cars and you'll seewhat I mean. Must say though, that it seems like a strange comparison. What does your Dad/Family actually need? A spacious 4x4 or a GT? Naturally by posting on this Forum you're going to get a rather biased answer...

I'd tell him to check the service costs on the M3 before making a choice.

chalk and cheese mate

the m3 is great, I have one, who needs 2 practical cars as "nice" as the X5 maybe, and the m3 doenst need to scare the crap out of your sis - just drive it a little more sensibly and she wont know its not a 318

Strange how the men in the family appreciate the speed and looks of the M3, If your mum wants space and comfort buy her a van and an armchair.
My advice is to tell your dad that if he prefers the M3 then he should buy it, tell him you could have no respect for a man who chooses the X5 over an M3.

My wife suggested I should get X5 ( two young children, push chairs, car seats etc) I smiled nicely and bought the M3 cab - kids love it!

Stanger again, my wife & daughter love it when I let rip in the M3,they love the sound with the windows down & my daughter (8) really loves it when we go through a tunnel & hears it go up past 6500rpm it really screams , I have a open cat back Miltek stainless system fitted .
