M3 convertible SMG Or Manual Transmission ???
OK Ive now sold My ST2 Focus and am looking for an M3 Convertible But im unsure whether to go SMG or for manual tranny The thought of replacing the SMG if at fails is not good ? How bullet proof or otherwise is the SMG unit and its complex electronics ?? Does having SMG add value or take it away ?? Thanks !!!

Personally I would go with the "real" manual - more fun to drive, less "stuff" to go wrong.

Yes, I know the SMG can shift faster than I can. But I say "so what?!"

To me, working the tranny is a lot of the joy of driving, and BMW make a damn good gearbox.

Interesting that it can shift faster... as I followed a friends the other month on a bypass... exactly same as mine bar SMG he was in front at a roundabout and as we both cam out we both booted it in 2nd and i pulled on him and eventually went past him..

Were both about the same weight to...

That would be down to the massive difference in power output from M engines. M3's have been known to be 320 to 350ish
