hi, i have a 2004 m3 with 34k miles and the warranty runs out in the next couple of months, is it worth renewing it and does anybody know how much it will cost?

I'd renew it, or get rid!

About £1000 to £1300 (I forget exact figure, might be more now) for an M car of that mileage.
£250 excess on every claim too.

I got rid lol!

Personally I wouldn't bother with independant warranties unless you are prepared to argue over every single fault. They may be cheaper but you find out why when you come to claim.
Bite the bullet and stick with the BMW warranty or put the money you saved by not renewing into a kitty for when problems do occur. Even if out of warranty you can have a good case to get part payment on repairs if you have kept up the servicing and the problem is not ordinary wear and tear (e.g. 3 year old car, average miles and engine/gearbox/diff goes bang).

I had a Z3M on the old BMW warranty (pre price hike and excess charge) and glad I had it, VANOS change done with no problem at all (I would have had to pay in excess of £2k at a dealer without the warranty).
I sold it with two months left on the warranty, there was no way I going to pay around £1600 for 12 months warranty (mine was higher mileage so warranty is more) then still pay another £250 if I had to claim. Worse case scenario is an engine letting go, second hand engines are around the £2.5k to £3k mark and labour at an independant around £800-£1k. Two to three years warranty money (plus excess charge) will cover pretty much most repairs with second hand parts and independant labour rates.

At the end of the day it's a gamble you have to decide upon.
