E39 M5 - stupid question

Are *all* the RPM 'warning' lights supposed to go out? The last two segments one mine - the red and one amber - stay on, regardless of how long I've been driving for.

I can't seem to find a definitive answer on this, not even in the owner's handbook. Unless I'm being blind, which is possible. ...
